Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) reported its third quarter 2026 results on October 28, for the quarter ended September 30, 2026.
Total revenue rose 9.6% to $3.3 billion, driven mainly by new restaurant openings. Comparable restaurant sales increased 2.1% – a 0.8% increase in transactions and a 1.3% increase in average check – beating expectations and marking a third straight quarter of positive transaction growth. Digital sales hit a record, making up 38.8% of food and beverage revenue, up from 36.7% a year ago.
Profit moved the other way: net income fell to $339.9 million from $382.1 million a year earlier, and diluted earnings per share slipped to $0.27 from $0.29, as higher costs squeezed margins. Operating margin narrowed to 13.7% from 15.9%, and restaurant-level operating margin fell to 23.3% from 24.5%.
Chipotle opened 84 new restaurants in the quarter, 53 of them with a Chipotlane, and reaffirmed its plan for 350 to 370 openings in 2026, with full-year comparable sales growth expected in the low-single-digit range.
